Too Sexy for Their Own Paper

Hirokatsu Hijukata | Poster for a fashion show presenting paper dresses
Graphis Annual 68/69
I found this illustration on the wonderful blog, Aqua Velvet, in a post by Portland-based mid-century design expert Sandi Vincent.  I could eat this and all the amazing posters she highlights by 1960s Japanese graphic artists .  I will certainly be looking for more on those she has mentioned: Hirokatsu Hijukata, Hiroshi Tanaka, Hisami Kunitake, Tadanori Yokoo, and more.  Yum!

Graphic Designer Tadashi Ohashi

Thanks to keeperdesign for your earlier comment and then for introducing me to the graphic work of Tadashi Ohashi (1916 - 1998). A major force in 20th century Japanese graphic design, Ohashi spent his early career in charge of graphics for some of Tokyo's major department stores before becoming the Art Director for Kikkomann Soy Sauce in the 1960s and 70s. His list of awards runs long. Here is a nice blog post from Jeremy Hedley at Antipixel.com about a folio of Ohashi's images that Kikkomann issued in the 1960s. With some searching, I was also able to find these three prints of vegetables. I hope to learn more about his career and work, and perhaps offer more through the gallery in the future.
